Virus || Bacteria || Living Beings || Difference between virus and bacteria

bacteria and virus

1. Define the following terms:
        a. Bacteriophage
        b. Phytophage
        c. Zoophage

Ans:
a) Bacteriophage : The virus which infect bacteria for its replication is known as bacteriophage. For example: T-phage.

b) Phytophage : The virus which infect plant cell and cause disease in plant is called known as phytophage. It is also called plant virus. For example: TMV, CMV, etc.

c) Zoophage : The virus which infect animal cell and cause disease in animal is known as zoophage. It is also called animal virus. For example: HIV, retro virus, etc.

2. Differentiate between virus and other living things in two points:
Ans: The difference between a virus and other living things are as follows:

Virus
Other living things
A virus cannot synthesize proteins on its own.
Other living things can synthesize their own proteins.
A virus has no cellular structure.
Other living things have a cellular structure.

3. Name the vitamins found in small pox virus.
Ans: The vitamins found in small pox viruses are riboflabin and biotin.

4. What is a retro virus? Write any one retrovirus.

Ans: Any virus that has RNA as the genetic material and is involved in making DNA from RNA is called a retro virus. HIV is a retro virus.

5. Write any two differences between virus and bacteria.
Ans: The following are the difference between virus and bacteria:

Virus
Bacteria
Viruses are smaller than bacteria. They can only be seen under electron microscope.
Bacteria are very small in size. They can be seen under a compound microscope.
Viruses cannot grow and show metabolic activities.
Bacteria attain growth and show metabolic activities.
The cell wall is absent in virus.
A bacterial cell is surrounded by a distinct cell wall.

6. Write the full form of TMV. Name a vitamin which is found in virus?
Ans: The full form of TMV is “Tobacco Mosaic Virus”. The vitamins found in virus are riboflavin and biotin.

7. Write the major function of “Protein Coat” and “Tail Fibre”.

Ans: The major function of Protein Coat is to protect the head and DNA of bacteriophage and the function of Tail Fibre is to stick to the surface of host’s body.

8. What is fungi?
Ans: A fungus is any group of unicellular, multicellular, or syncytial spore producing organisms feeding on organic matter, including moulds, yeast, mushroom, and toadstools.

9. Define hyphae.
Ans: Mycelium of fungi consist of a network of tubular branched filament called the hyphae.

10. Sketch the figure of mushroom and labeled the different parts of it.
