Profession:

A profession is an occupation or vocation which requires a high degree of knowledge and expertise in the specific field.
As per the level of formal education, type of training and experience, profession is categorize into three levels. They are;
i) Basic Level /Low Level
ii) Medium Level and
iii) High Level Profession



# Difference between Medium Level and High Level Profession:

Medical and Treatment Sector

Medicine: The word medicine come from latin word Medicos which means both science and art which is related to diagnosing, treating and preventing diseases and injury.
There are different professions found in medicine sector. Eg: Pharmacist, Opthalmician, Nurse, Physiotheraphist, Dentist, Physicians, Radiologist, Pathologist, etc.

Medical Doctors: A doctor is a person who is qualified and hold a degree of medicine to treat sick people.
MBBS : Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery

MBBS Doctor : The person who receives the certificates of Bachelor of Medicine or bachelor of Surgery is called MBBS Doctor.

Surgeons: The doctors who are trained, skilled and practiced to operate various infected internal or external parts of human body are called surgeons.
The person who studies for another two years after MBBS to gain specialization in certain medical field is called an
MD or MS.
MD = Doctor of Medicine
MS = Master of Surgery

Achieving the Medical Degree

Q) What are the qualification required to achieve the Medical Degree?
Ans: The following qualifications are required to achieve the Medical Degree;
  • One must study science taking up subjects like maths, chemistry, biology, physics, computer, etc in higher secondary education. 
  • He/She should scores more than 50% of marks in aggregate. 
  • He/She must pass the entrance test held by the Tribhuwan University or IOM. 
  • He/She must study four and a half year and have an internship of one year. 

PHARMACY and PHARMACIST

Pharmacy: Pharmacy is the practice of preparing and dispensing drugs and providing drugs related information to consumers. In other words, pharmacy is a branch of medical science which is concerned with the sources, nature, properties and preparation of drugs.

Pharmacist: Pharmacist are healthcare professionals who practice in pharmacy, the field of health science focusing on safe and effective medication use. It is also known as chemist.

Degree of Pharmacy: 1) Diploma and 2) Bachelor

Qualification required to be a pharmacist:
  • One who passed SEE can get entry in Diploma in pharmacy. 
  • To join the bachelor level study of pharmacy, one should either complete the diploma in pharmacy or should passed higher secondary level of education taking major subjects like chemistry, biology, physics, computer or mathematics

Duties and Responsibilities of Pharmacist:

  • To provide medicine as per the doctors’ prescription. 
  • To suggest the patients to take the medicine in proper ways, regarding time-duration and dosage. 
  • Counseling patients on drug therapies. 
  • Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
