Computer Networking || Computer Network || Types of Network
1) What is computer network? Define.
Ans: Computer Network is a link between two or more computers with wires or wireless medium to share and communicate each other.
2) List some advantages and disadvantages of a computer network.
Ans: The following are the advantages and disadvantages of a computer network:
Advantages:
i) Helps to share printers, scanners, and emails.
ii) It allows sharing of software packages and data files.
iii) Helps to connect with multiple computers together to send and receive information when accessing the network.
Disadvantages:
i) The stored data is not hundred percent safe.
ii) Virus can infect the system and cause problems.
iii) In case, the data is lost or corrupted, it is irreparable.
3) How are computer networks classified into different types and what are they?
Ans: Computer networks are classified into different types on the basis of distance covered by the networking of computers. The different types of computer network are:
a) Local Area Network (LAN)
b) Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
c) Wide Area Network (WAN)
4) What is Bound and Unbound Transmission Media?
Ans: Bound Transmission Media:
Bound Transmission Media are the wires or cables which are conductor surrounded by a physical jacket of non conducting materials like rubber or plastic.
Unbound Transmission Media:
Unbound Transmission Media are the wireless or unguided media where the electronic signals are transmitted on air in the form of electromagnetic wave.
5) What is the role of NIC in a network?
Ans: The role of NIC in a network is to connect computer/workstation to the network.
6) What is the function of MODEM?
Ans: The function of MODEM is to convert Digital signals into Analog and Analog signals into digital signals and also to connect our computer with ISP (Internet Service Provider).
7) What is the major difference between Hub and Switch?
Ans: The signals transmitted from a port is repeated and copied to all other ports in a Hub where as In Switch the signals transmitted from a port is not repeated but forwarded it properly to the right port.
8) Difference between Bridge and Gateways.
Ans: The following are the difference between Bridge and Gateways:
|
Bridge |
Gateways |
|
Works in data link layers |
Works in all layers |
|
Connect two different LANs of the same protocols. |
Connect two networks working completely different
protocols. |
|
Connect tow different LANs. |
It converts the protocols. |
|
Format of packet is not changed. |
Format of packet is changed. |
9) What is topology? State its types.
Ans: The physical layout for the arrangements of computers on a network is called topology. The following are the different types of topology:
i) Bus Topology
ii) Star Topology
iii) Ring Topology
iv) Mesh Topology
v) Tree Topology
vi) Hybrid Topology
