Windows Operating System:
Microsoft windows are the most popular operating
system. It was developed by Microsoft Corporation, USA. It is based on Graphic
User Interface (GUI) so it is very easy to operate computer with windows
operating system. Microsoft Company has
released different versions of Windows operating system such as Windows-XP,
Windows – Vista, Windows – 7, Windows -8, Windows – 10, etc.
Starting and Shutting Down the computer
Starting the
computer:
1.
Connect the
computer with power socket and switch the power Socket ON
2.
Press the power
switch of system unit and monitor
(Windows start up your computer automatically)
The computer takes few minutes to load the operating
system on the computer. It may ask you to enter User name and Password. Enter
username and password and click on ok or press Enter key from Keyboard. Your
computer will start and you will see windows like below
Shutdown the
Computer
After
completing the work in the computer, you need to shutdown it properly. In order
to shut down the computer do follow the following steps:
1.
Click on start
button
2.
Click on Turn
Off Computer Option
3.
Click on Turn
Off button
After
some time your computer will be turned off and the screen becomes blank. Then
turn off the power button of monitor.

Desktop of a Computer |
Desktop is the first screen of the Windows that you
see on the monitor after loading windows. You can see several elements on the
desktop. On the desktop you see many small graphical pictures which represent
program, file, folder or disk drive. These graphical pictures are called icons.
Some icons are displayed on the Desktop permanently. We can also keep some
other important and useful icons on the desktop so that they are easily
accessible to the users.

Taskbar
It is a horizontal bar that is located at the button
of the windows screen. The start button, active (opened) program buttons, icon
for quick access to programs and system time are situated on the taskbar.
Start Button
It is the main button on the computer desktop. This
button is located at the left of desktop and left of the taskbar. When you
click on the start button it displays different menus. You can open or use
several programs from these menus.
